This past weekend I attended Spark Sessions, the only Canadian Beauty and Fashion Blogger Conference in Canada. I met some great new bloggers and learned quite a bit (G+ here I come and I am finally creating a media kit). I always learn something new at conferences and that’s one of the most exciting parts of attending any conference. The second day of the conference I was a scheduled speaker, my topic “Step it Up: You’re a Blogger, What’s Next?” Rema Gouyez (The Burgundy Book) and I shared our stories with a room full of bloggers (most of them fairly new to the industry). We were candid and she was funny. I shared my Canada AM story, for those new to my blog the first time I did a TV segment I slept in and almost didn’t make it. I told this group of new bloggers that their journey will not be a straight line, that they will get a 1000 no’s, that they will mess up and their goals will change. I also explained that they need to surround themselves with a great network of other bloggers, that a smile is their secret weapon when meeting PR contacts and when they are messing up take a deep breathe, own that moment and decide you are going to be excellent because being excellent is your only choice.
What do you wear when you are attending a conference with your peers (new and seasoned)? All black everything – I went back to the basics. I had every intention of wearing the exact outfit below, because of the snow – yes snow – I changed out my shoes and wore my leopard print heels. These pictures were taken before the colour change, I like to wear this outfit for a very casual dressy look. Totally makes sense once you see it.
