If you “Like” my Facebook page then you already know that I helped create a dress named the “Iva”. For this post I’m sharing all the details from the original Dress Mavens post. I hope you enjoy!
Dress Mavens is proud to introduce its first Brand Ambassador dress, the Iva, and it’s our feature for the month of October. This versatile dress was inspired by celebrity stylist and fashion blogger Iva Grbesic. Designed collaboratively with the fashion expert, the Iva is a perfect representation of its namesake: classic, functional, and full of spirit.
“Dress Mavens offers a dress for every body and for me as a stylist that is important, women are not defined by a generic size. I wanted to help design a dress that was feminine and timeless.” Says Iva. “A piece you could wear, place in your wardrobe and still be able to wear in 10 years time.”
Before we got to work designing the dress, we spoke with Iva and asked her what she would love to see in a dress bearing her name. She told us that especially as a mom of 4, above all else it needed to be comfortable and stylish. We started the process at Spark Sessions, a Fashion Blogger Conference last November, and Iva was inspired by a gorgeous brocade, full pleated skirt on a fellow blogger. We decided to work with a few pleats and a fuller skirt bottom, while accentuating the waistline with a band. Learning that we share a mutual love of pockets, that detail was added to the must-have column, as was a classic higher scoop neck (of course how low the neckline goes is always customize-able). We also added princess seams to shape and hug curves in the bodice. While Iva favors a 3/4 sleeve, we wanted to offer options so we included an inset cap sleeve design as well.
We finished the design process by finalizing the color choices. We were left with a decision to make. What could we do to really set this style apart. This brainstorm resulted in an exciting deviation from our simple formula: meet our only dress that is available in both solid AND two-tone design. To create the illusion of a skirt and top, we paired classic colors as well as seasonal trends for a delightful and completely customized look.
We can tell you this dress is versatile and suits a variety of figures, but we’d rather show you.
Can you imagine yourself in an Iva?
