I’ve been blogging about my hair and colour journey this year with Sassoon (here). I started out with a really dark and rich brown in the winter and have ended it with great blonde highlights for the summer. I’ve grown my hair over the last year and like this past the shoulder length. Today is my final Sassoon blog post for this series, however, it’s not my final time at the salon.
My Instagram stories and Instagram feed are filled with my in salon experiences and results from all the changes. This last visit was about a touch up. I had my highlights done over a month ago and they still look great. My problem is that I am going on vacation for 6 weeks and don’t want the roots to be that drastic (I don’t care if that is a new trend, it’s not one I want to participate in).
My colourist, Tara, recommended that we just touch up the crown and have me Croatia ready for the summer. Now, because my hair journey has been all about colour I wanted to ask Tara some questions about colouring/highlighting your hair.
1.My hair tends to be______, what is a style solution for this?
Gorgeous & stylish (Iva: she really did say that, however, we had to get serious). You have blonde highlights and that means you bleach it. This causes your hair to be over-processed and dried out. That is the sacrifice you make for blonde hair.
The solution is treatments. This starts with an in salon treatment and is followed up with an at home mask after 1 or 2 weeks. This add moisture to my blonde hair. A great at home mask is the Nutritive by Kerastase.
2.What type of shampoo/conditioner do you recommend for my type of hair and why?
The Kerastase Chromatique line is great because it is specifically for colour treated hair, however, the entire product offering works with colour treated hair. So if you want to try another line you can.
3.What is one hair tip that you share with all clientele?
Blow drying, straightening, and curling wands all put heat on your hair. If you are putting heat on your hair us a protectant! This gives your hair protection against all those tools you use.
4.Wht is the best way to protect colour?
This one is easy to say but hard for most people to do because the best way to protect colour is to stay out of the sun. It summer and we are outside constantly so wear a UV hat (Iva: which i do) which also protects your scalp and face. Plus look for hair styling products that have sunscreen in them.
Here I am all “Croatia Ready” with my new hair.
